São Miguel Island — Azores, Portugal
São Miguel, the largest island in the Azores, is a place where landscapes shift every few minutes — from deep volcanic craters to rolling green pastures, from steaming geothermal valleys to calm blue lakes tucked between mountains. It’s an island that feels both wild and welcoming, shaped by nature but softened by the people who call it home.
The island’s heart beats in its volcanic soul. At Sete Cidades, twin lakes glow in shades of blue and green inside a massive crater, surrounded by viewpoints that make you stop and breathe. In Furnas, steam rises from the earth, hot springs bubble beside hydrangea‑lined roads, and the air smells faintly of minerals and eucalyptus. Even the food is touched by the volcano — cozido, a traditional stew, is cooked slowly underground by natural heat.
Driving around São Miguel feels like flipping through postcards: cliffs dropping into the Atlantic, tea plantations rolling across hillsides, waterfalls hidden in lush forests, and cows grazing on impossibly green slopes. The coastline is rugged and dramatic, with natural swimming pools carved by lava and lookout points that seem to float above the ocean.
Despite its dramatic scenery, São Miguel is peaceful — a place where mornings start with mist over the mountains and evenings end with sunsets glowing across the sea. It’s an island made for slow travel, quiet moments, and those “I can’t believe this is real” views.

แม้ทิวทัศน์จะอลังการ
แต่ซาวมิเกลกลับสงบอย่างน่าประหลาด — เช้าที่เริ่มด้วยหมอกคลุมภูเขา
และเย็นที่จบด้วยแสงอาทิตย์สีทองไหลลงสู่ทะเล นี่คือเกาะที่เหมาะกับการเดินทางแบบช้า
ๆ การหยุดฟังเสียงธรรมชาติ และช่วงเวลาที่ทำให้เผลอพูดว่า
“ไม่น่าเชื่อว่านี่คือของจริง”
